Living in daydreams."

Preface
“Once upon a time, there was an old lady living in a small, poor village with her son. The old lady was a very skillful weaver and her son was a farmer. One night she dreamed of a goddess, telling her if she could make a piece of brocade of the perfect world in her mind, something good would happen. The old lady put all her heart and imagination into it and created the most beautiful landscape in silk. When she finished, the brocade started to extend, becoming bigger and bigger… finally the image on the fabric turned into real landscape, and they lived happily ever after.”
Above was a Chinese fairy tale I read when I was a kid, story of a dream-weaver, literally. Maybe the impression of the story was too deep and got me brainwashed, I grew up to be a so-called idealist, i.e. daydreamer.
Actually I am a very practical person; never expect miracles, never dream for the impossible. Just it’s a little bit hard for me to say “impossible”. In my notion, if a blueprint/picture projecting something truly valuable, it would be worth trying regardless how small the probability of success is. Because, even though the original plan might not be fully carried out, the result would still be better than what we started with, and that is progress. We are all living in the dreams of saints and martyrs – thanks to those forerunners, although this world is far from perfect, at least it is less dark than the past. If we don’t have any dreams now, there would only be darkness waiting in the future.
My dream is very simple – having an unfettered life in a beautiful environment. The environment includes both nature and culture. So far all I have done, is trying my best to prevent beautiful environment from ruined. I believe that art can change human mind, and the state of mind is the most powerful thing, so I create art to express my idea, and hopefully to make the work more effective.
This pamphlet includes my representative works dated from 2008 to the first half of 2011. Among them the digital drawings of “Old Beijing Four Seasons” are derived from the original oil painting series. It is my new approach to simplify and remake painting images into 25 to 30-color digital drawings for derivative products, such as textiles or prints. Like anything can happen in the dreams, there is no limitation on the media of my art creation.
